Why charge you (the consumer) additional insurance? Cargo insurance covers your belongings in the event they are damaged, stolen, or otherwise mishandled while in the custody of your mover.  Are you licensed as a business in an Alabama locality?

We love licenses (NOT)! But business licenses are required for moving operations in most jurisdictions. Here 2 There LLC is proudly licensed right here in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

 In Alabama, are you authorized to transport household goods through the Alabama Public Service Commission (APSC)? 

Household moving is a highly-regulated industry (Boooo!). But we believe it's for your (the consumer) best interest. Any entity moving household goods professionally in Alabama must obtain a certificate with that authority through APSC. If the answer to this question is "no," those entities could be moving goods illegally.  Do you have a tariff filed with the state? 

Tariffs are essentially a boring document detailing how you are charged, along with some other fancy legal terms, responsibilities, liabilities, etc. Tariffs are required for all moving companies in the state of Alabama. Make sure your moving company has this filed with the state of Alabama. 

 Do you own or lease your own trucks? What type of trailer are you using? 

We hate to have to say this, but there are some "companies" that rent the trucks for the day of the move (a liability and possible ethical issue!). There are also some that will use vans that are too small. They may also want to use open utility trailers or other means of transport. Not that it's a big deal - just know how your valuables will be transported prior to the day of the move.
